“Nobody has the right to turn out and tell me that I can’t wear a certain outfit, that I can’t go out to a certain place because I would be safer, or because a man looks at me…”
I love Priyanka Chopra.
Asked about the racy content of the video, Thicke responded: “We tried to do everything that was taboo. Bestiality, drug injections, and everything that is completely derogatory towards women. Because all three of us are happily married with children, we were like, ‘We’re the perfect guys to make fun of this.’ People say, ‘Hey, do you think this is degrading to women?’ I’m like, ‘Of course it is. What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman. I’ve never gotten to do that before. I’ve always respected women.’
Robin Thicke, on “Blurred Lines”. Because remember, if you’re married with children you can’t objectify women, influence how other men view women or have ever objectified or disrespected women at any previous point in your life.
The thing I find most disturbing about this very, very disturbing quote is how predictable it is. It’s like Thicke played misogyny bingo, first from the perspective of an artist
He was being edgy!
He was being ironic! Your disgust is the point! Good job!
He’s a good guy in real life who was making a statement in his art!
before delving into being an actual scary person:
Yes, of course he knows he’s degrading women! He designed the video to portray “everything that is completely derogatory towards women”!
Also, degrading women is “taboo.” It’s a question of social mores, not human rights.
In fact, degrading women (if done properly?) is pleasurable! It’s delicious, forbidden fruit!
He’s never “gotten” to do that before! How liberating this is for him!
In sum: men sometimes stumble upon opportunities to degrade women and though there are the ones who do it all the time, the good men who “always” respect women deserve to try it out just once (or twice or three times or) just to see what it’s like. But you can trust them because they’re “happily married with children” and those relationships and social markers mean they’re innately good — means that, on some level, goodness is itself innate (to them specifically) — and they will always revert back to that goodness after a bad boy binge of degrading their fellow human beings. Nothing to fear here, ladies & lady-sympathizers.
‘What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman!’ Go fuck your fucking self you utter shit.
"I’ve behaved myself and lived up to your ridiculous standards for SO LONG, the least you can do is let me degrade some women as a reward."
TO WHOEVER HAD THE AUDACITY TO ASK ME WHY I DO NOT LIKE ROBIN THICKE. this is only ONE of the very problematic things he has said/done in the public eye. besides the fact that i’m super bitter about black women collectively UPLIFTING him as a WHITE MALE he has done a bunch of shit to bury a deep hole for himself.
All this commentary is A+
I love how he made this sorta sexist song, and then to accompany it, he produced a WAY more sexist video, and in response to the backlash, made some EVER MORE SEXIST STATEMENTS. Like, hey dipshit, stop while you’re behind.
We were broke college students (she was graduating in a couple months and I was in graduate school). We didn’t think we’d be able to afford a baby and didn’t feel ready. We went back the next day, together. She took another pregnancy test and it came back positive again. We asked for pamphlets so we could think about our options. The nurse got the pamphlets, sat down next to us, held our hands and looked right into our eyes: “You’re going to have this baby and be great parents.” It wasn’t said to pressure us or with a tone of judgment. It was said with love and compassion. She knew we were just scared. “No one ever feels ready,” she told us. The nurse explained that she’s been doing her job for 25 years and has helped many patients make the difficult choice to have an abortion. She told us that the simple fact that pregnancy wasn’t planned shouldn’t mean that we immediately resort to abortion.
Some of you may say she should have just minded her own business. That it was our decision an ours alone. But we didn’t need a cold ultimatum. We needed a loving, considerate, and thoughtful motherly figure to let us know that we’d be OK. She’d been doing abortion counseling for long enough to recognize that we would be thrilled once we got past the initial fright. We began crying with an elation I can’t begin to describe.
Liam turned 7 months today. We’re stressed at times, sure, but oh so happy. Thank you Planned Parenthood.
Yet another side of the issue, from Reddit, here.
[Added by moderator: And this is the point, right? That Planned Parenthood is a family planning clinic, not just abortion doctors. They don’t force people to abort babies. They are trying to help people figure out their lives.]
WHAT? You mean Planned Parenthood isn’t a corporate abortion overlord that coerces women into having abortions so that they can keep their “well over 90%” abortion rate up?!
I can’t believe Abby Johnson and Jon Kyl lied to me. What is the world coming to?
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this show
Estimated cost for stay at Kate Middleton’s private birthing suite: $15,000. Cost of average delivery in the United States: $30,000.
I’m sure CNN will find time in their wall-to-wall Royal Baby coverage to report on this.
I can confirm: Alice’s (totally healthy, complication-free) birth cost over $25,000.
We could’ve had the princess suite! And $10,000!
For this reason, (among many others) I will be hiring a midwife and staying as far away as possible from a hospital when I give birth in the US. Watch “The Business of Being Born” for more info.

Well, here’s the deal, anon. The Salvation Army is an evangelical Christian group, and they impose those beliefs on the people that they employ and the communities they serve. Here are a few examples:
They are so opposed to LGBT rights that they have lobbied multiple times for exemptions from Federal and Local anti-discrimination laws, and threatened to withdraw their services.
They refused to provide shelter to a homeless gay couple, unless they broke up and renounced their homosexuality.
They refused to provide a transgender woman with shelter that was congruent with her gender presentation, instead insisting she house with men. She chose instead to sleep on the sidewalk and died from the cold.
Speaking of gender, there was also this charming incident where one of their hostels refused to open the door for a 17-year-old victim who had just been brutally raped (or even call the police for her) because that particular hostel had a strict “men only” policy.
Children who can’t prove their immigration status are turned away.
The organization also disposes of any Harry Potter or Twilight related donations (rather than giving them to other charities), because they claim the toys are “incompatible with the charity’s Christian beliefs”.
During the Bush Administration (thanks to ‘faith-based initiatives’) they fired about 20 long-time employees (Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Gay), simply for refusing to sign the organization’s statement of Christian belief.
So, that—in a nutshell—is what’s wrong with it.
i will never stop spreading the word about how fucking shady the salvation army is
think twice before you donate to the bell-ringers in your local mall this holiday season … i am planning on starting a dialogue with the ones that are set to station themselves outside the store i work in
also one time i volunteered with the salvation army around christmas time being an “elf” and helping parents pick out free donated toys for their kids
which was all well and good until they ESCORTED TWO MEN OUT OF THE BUILDING BECAUSE THEY “LOOKED GAY”
this was a first-hand eyewitness account and i should have left then and there, but seeing as i needed to take the bus back to school…
And this is why I starting to donate to other charities around Christmas.
No more red buckets for me.
and theres also how in Australia they have teared apart native aboriginal communities to “christianize” them and make them part of capitalist western society, up until the late 60’s they assisted with the taking of aboriginal children from their families in the stolen generation and put the children into missions where they would follow strict pattern of work and christian education
One of my homeys used to do missionary work for them. They picked him because he was Chinese American, and they wanted to do outreach in China. He was escorted at all times, not allowed outside of his hotel room except to eat or go do missionary work, and they would scold him if he was “talking to the wrong people” (aka, a woman, because we know merely exchanging words with a woman is temptation of the flesh!!!!).
He was not being paid. They manipulated and abused him and it’s decades later of him still working out the guilt shit, because they knew he came from an abusive family - so they knew all the buttons to push again, except this time the guilt/abuse tricks were backed up with the hope of the salvation of his soul, the hope being held out that maybe, just this once, if he works hard enough, he would be good enough.
This was not a single case - this was how they rolled. They knew how to pick ‘em, break’em and keep ‘em. Cult organizations and Iceberg Slim got the same moves and the same goals - get theirs at the cost of everyone else’s soul.
And here’s my thing: What part of Christianity demands that you lie and manipulate the people spreading the Good Word? If you’re acting in good faith, you shouldn’t have to abuse people into doing it.
So it says everything about what they’re really about. They fuck over people without, and fuck over the people who work for them too.
