Women who served in Iraq were more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire.
23-28% of women serving in the military will be sexually assaulted over the course of their service. And those numbers are rising.
Let that sink in.

Want to go to Planned Parenthood in D.C.? You’ll have to run the anti-choice gauntlet first.
This is what it looks like when clinics don’t have buffer zones. They’re sidewalk harassers, sidewalk bullies, whatever else, but they are no where near counsellors. Counsellors are non-judgmental, non-biased, empathetic listeners, that is NOT what those people are. - Paige
If the clinic employees begin exercising their 2nd Amendment right to bear arms and carried AR-15’s or AK-47’s along with them, on public streets, that would present an interesting conundrum to the gun loving right wing, would it not? I bet it would stop all the harassment cold too.
There are some abortion providers that do carry guns at all times, wear bulletproof vests to work, hire bodyguards, wear masks into the clinic so protestors can’t identify them, go in the back door, change up their driving routes every day, check under their cars daily for bombs, etc. That’s how serious this is, and that’s why it’s dangerous to take the protestors at face value, even if they seem peaceful. You don’t know who they’re hiding in the crowd.
And doctors who work at abortion clinics have been murdered by pro-life activists, in what has to be one of the biggest ironies in existence. Clinics have also been bombed.
Ive done clinic escorts before, while we shouldn’t even still be talking about this in 2014…
If you take a friend to a hostile clinic and are their escort you are their therepy animal so to speak. So imagine they are blind and deaf and prepare them to be.
First a large wrap around pair of shades… Install on friends face.
Next ipod/walkman whatever, packed with whatever will distract or drown out or comfort your friend. Put that on the ear bit.
Decide which side your friend wishes to be comforted on, thats your side. The side they dont feel so vunerable on? That’s easy, you pass that friend an umbrella, rain or shine, they hold that shit in the crook of their arm open, boom half a force field.
You are the second half. You hold that friends arm as loose or tight as they want. You are the human part.
You look straight ahead, you keep your head up and you do not look ashamed, angry or proud. You just are. You are your friends eyes. Sure you probably want to rip this fuck over here apart but that proves nothing. Your sole purpose is to get your friend inside that building with limited trauma.
Repeat as needed on way out when she is gonna need you more and then drive that woman to whatever food she asks for.
This is Michael Dunn, presumably confused as to how he just got away with murder.
Dunn, who repeatedly fired his gun at a vehicle in which 17-year-old Jordan Davis was killed, claimed to have been threatened with a shotgun. Police never found a shotgun; no witnesses reported seeing one. Though one thing is clear: Dunn told the kids to stop playing their “thug music” loudly, and later decided the best way to end the resulting dispute was by firing a gun at Davis’s car ten times — even as it pulled away.
Dunn invoked Florida’s well-used-by-threatened-people-who-aren’t-black “Stand Your Ground” defense. While the jury was deadlocked on the murder charge — for Davis’s killing — they found him guilty in the attempted murder of the three other teens in the car and he now faces up to 60 years in prison.
But still, bottom line is a white man got away with killing a black teen in Florida. And shit isn’t ever going to change in the Sunshine State.

stop using the words “white privilege” when talking about this case THIS SHIT IS WHITE SUPREMACY. PLAIN AND FUCKING SIMPLE.
A WHITE MAN SHOT A BLACK KID BECAUSE THE BLACK KID DIDN’T SHOW ENOUGH DEFERENCE TO HIM. THIS IS RACIST VIGILATISM. THIS IS THE MAINTAINING OF JIM CROW ETIQUETTE. THIS IS THE RESULT OF A “JUSTICE” SYSTEM BASED ON LAWS THAT AT FIRST DIDN’T RECOGNIZE BLACK PEOPLE AND HUMAN BEINGS AND THEN ONLY RECOGNIZED THEM AS SUCH WHEN THEY COMMITTED A CRIME. THIS IS WHITE SUPREMACY. THIS IS ANTIBLACKNESS.
CALL IT WHAT THE FUCK IT IS.
“Nobody has the right to turn out and tell me that I can’t wear a certain outfit, that I can’t go out to a certain place because I would be safer, or because a man looks at me…”
I love Priyanka Chopra.
Asked about the racy content of the video, Thicke responded: “We tried to do everything that was taboo. Bestiality, drug injections, and everything that is completely derogatory towards women. Because all three of us are happily married with children, we were like, ‘We’re the perfect guys to make fun of this.’ People say, ‘Hey, do you think this is degrading to women?’ I’m like, ‘Of course it is. What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman. I’ve never gotten to do that before. I’ve always respected women.’
Robin Thicke, on “Blurred Lines”. Because remember, if you’re married with children you can’t objectify women, influence how other men view women or have ever objectified or disrespected women at any previous point in your life.
The thing I find most disturbing about this very, very disturbing quote is how predictable it is. It’s like Thicke played misogyny bingo, first from the perspective of an artist
He was being edgy!
He was being ironic! Your disgust is the point! Good job!
He’s a good guy in real life who was making a statement in his art!
before delving into being an actual scary person:
Yes, of course he knows he’s degrading women! He designed the video to portray “everything that is completely derogatory towards women”!
Also, degrading women is “taboo.” It’s a question of social mores, not human rights.
In fact, degrading women (if done properly?) is pleasurable! It’s delicious, forbidden fruit!
He’s never “gotten” to do that before! How liberating this is for him!
In sum: men sometimes stumble upon opportunities to degrade women and though there are the ones who do it all the time, the good men who “always” respect women deserve to try it out just once (or twice or three times or) just to see what it’s like. But you can trust them because they’re “happily married with children” and those relationships and social markers mean they’re innately good — means that, on some level, goodness is itself innate (to them specifically) — and they will always revert back to that goodness after a bad boy binge of degrading their fellow human beings. Nothing to fear here, ladies & lady-sympathizers.
‘What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman!’ Go fuck your fucking self you utter shit.
"I’ve behaved myself and lived up to your ridiculous standards for SO LONG, the least you can do is let me degrade some women as a reward."
TO WHOEVER HAD THE AUDACITY TO ASK ME WHY I DO NOT LIKE ROBIN THICKE. this is only ONE of the very problematic things he has said/done in the public eye. besides the fact that i’m super bitter about black women collectively UPLIFTING him as a WHITE MALE he has done a bunch of shit to bury a deep hole for himself.
All this commentary is A+
I love how he made this sorta sexist song, and then to accompany it, he produced a WAY more sexist video, and in response to the backlash, made some EVER MORE SEXIST STATEMENTS. Like, hey dipshit, stop while you’re behind.
We were broke college students (she was graduating in a couple months and I was in graduate school). We didn’t think we’d be able to afford a baby and didn’t feel ready. We went back the next day, together. She took another pregnancy test and it came back positive again. We asked for pamphlets so we could think about our options. The nurse got the pamphlets, sat down next to us, held our hands and looked right into our eyes: “You’re going to have this baby and be great parents.” It wasn’t said to pressure us or with a tone of judgment. It was said with love and compassion. She knew we were just scared. “No one ever feels ready,” she told us. The nurse explained that she’s been doing her job for 25 years and has helped many patients make the difficult choice to have an abortion. She told us that the simple fact that pregnancy wasn’t planned shouldn’t mean that we immediately resort to abortion.
Some of you may say she should have just minded her own business. That it was our decision an ours alone. But we didn’t need a cold ultimatum. We needed a loving, considerate, and thoughtful motherly figure to let us know that we’d be OK. She’d been doing abortion counseling for long enough to recognize that we would be thrilled once we got past the initial fright. We began crying with an elation I can’t begin to describe.
Liam turned 7 months today. We’re stressed at times, sure, but oh so happy. Thank you Planned Parenthood.
Yet another side of the issue, from Reddit, here.
[Added by moderator: And this is the point, right? That Planned Parenthood is a family planning clinic, not just abortion doctors. They don’t force people to abort babies. They are trying to help people figure out their lives.]
WHAT? You mean Planned Parenthood isn’t a corporate abortion overlord that coerces women into having abortions so that they can keep their “well over 90%” abortion rate up?!
I can’t believe Abby Johnson and Jon Kyl lied to me. What is the world coming to?
